So I watched Basic Instinct from 1992...it was good, but it wasn't wonderful. Mostly because there were way too many sex scenes, and they all involved really intense music, which I can understand because it shows Nick is falling into Catherine's trap.... Catherine isn't a psychopath, she may be really manipulative and great at lying, but she does show empathy (it's actually really easy to fool a lie detector, just fidget a lot so they can't get any consistent readings). My theory is that she's being manipulated by the Hazel lady who killed her whole family...but no, the movie ends before we find out the relationship between Hazel and Catherine. Gah, so unsatisfying.
And it's so stupid that the police actually think Beth is the ice pick killer...it's way too obvious that she's being framed. All those silly things about her having met Boz before at some party....blah blah blah they both graduated from Berkley, it wouldn't be surprising if Beth meets Catherine's partner at some party. And Beth dressing up like Catherine...it's not an uncommon thing at high school, still possible to happen in college.
And studying psych doesn't automatically make you a psychopath....or someone who's really good at lying. It's true that a psychopath could study psych in order to perfect their manipulating skills, but normal people studying psych is just like normal people studying science, or any other subject. AAHHH i hate how movies always cast a bad light on psychology. Especially cop movies because the shrink always ends up sleeping with the messed up cop. Oh Hollywood.
